Low to the ground with a sleek design, they feature a mattress supported by slats, eliminating the need for a box spring or other mattress foundation. Sometimes platform beds can have headboards and footboards, but the main element that makes them platform beds is still the same: low to the ground.

Platforms come in a wide selection of styles; though once considered strictly modern, platform beds are now available in styles ranging from traditional to country to cottage, and in metal, wood, and more economical wood products. Additionally, now that mattresses in all feels are supportive, well-padded, and thick, there is very little need for a box spring. You can sleep comfortably and soundly on only your mattress. Platforms also make your room look bigger; by not having the bed so high, you create more open sight-lines and the appearance of a larger, more open room.

As for bed size, go with what seems like it will be big enough for you. For shared beds, you should have at least a full or double bed. If you are both tall people, opt for a king or California king bed, as sleeping diagonally on your bed to keep your feet from hanging over the side tends to wear the mattress in a strange way.
